Description

Lay is a verb that commonly means “to put or set (something) down.” Lie is a verb that commonly means “to be in or to assume a horizontal position” or “to make an untrue statement.”

For the sake of this video, understand lie is a homophone (discussed for another lesson) which means a type of word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning. In this case, we are referring to the first explanation.

The best way to remember is that lay takes a direct object, and lie does not.
