Penny Hemans - When I was a child
2 Views • Nov 07, 2014
Description
I would read my books
beneath the covers with a torchlight
when I was a teen
I would ride alone on top of omnibuses
and send fright into my anxious parents
when I was a young woman
I dallied with the boys
And broke too many hearts for which I’m sorry
when I was middle-aged
I chased back and forth to school
and praised my children for their achievements
now I am entering old age
I feel that youth again
springing to the surface
and I am still caught
with my nose in a book
beneath the covers with a magnifying glass
