Penny Hemans - Temptations

like an apple
all bruised from
beneath

the shopping basket
handles twist their sting
into my palm

as alarm bells
tinitus 'tinggggg...'
ring their story

from the fractured
blow of a child's boot
onto fragile toys

on the bottom shelf
of the supermarket
showcase

the bear with the
broken ear
smiles serenely

as we depart
welcomed by new snow falls
and hungry shoppers
