The red-lipped batfish ( Ogcocephalus darwini )It is one of the most unusual and fascinating creatures of the ocean, famous for its exotic appearance reminiscent of wearing vibrant red lipstick.Found primarily in the deep waters of the Galapagos Islands and off the coast of Peru, this animal intrigues scientists and divers alike due to its unique behavior and anatomy.Main Features"Natural Lipstick" : Their lips have a very intense red color. Biologists suggest that this color serves for recognition among their own species and for attracting reproductive partners in the dim light of the seabed.Ocean Walker : Unlike most fish, it has a low swimming ability. It prefers to "walk" or glide along the seabed using its modified pectoral and pelvic fins as if they were supporting legs or arms.Lure on the Head : As it belongs to the order Lophiiformes , it has a retractable structure on its head called an illicium . This extension functions as a chemical and visual lure to attract small prey, such as crustaceans and small fish, directly to its mouth.Flattened Body : It has a triangular and flattened morphology, perfectly adapted to living camouflaged and associated with the sandy bottom substrate (benthic habit).
