Pabna District Information
The name Pabna might be derived from Pundra or Poondrobordhon civilization. There is a 450-bed mental hospital, second oldest in Indian Subcontinent. Ishwardi is one of the important railway junctions of the North Bengal as well as in Bangladesh. District’s town consists of fifteen (15) wards and thirty-four (34) Mahallas. It has an area of 18.64 square kilometers. District was established in 1832. The district consists of eight (8) municipalities, 81 wards, 191 mahallas, nine (9) Upazilas, 72 union Parishad, 1321 Mouzas and 1540 villages.
The district has 8 Upazilas. They are Atgharia, Bera, Bhangura, Chatmohar, Faridpur, Ishwardi, Pabna Sadar, and Santhia. It is bordered with Natore and Sirajganj on the north, Rajbari and Kushtia on the south, Mankganj and Sirajganj on the east, The Ganges river and Kushtia on the west.
