Downtown Rio de Janeiro was flooded with flag waving demonstrators again on Monday (June 24) night as protesters kept up demands the government address a myriad of issues despite President Dilma Rousseff's earlier announcement of a five-point plan to tackle their concerns.
After a relatively quiet weekend with a slew of smaller demonstrations, protesters hoped to bring back the momentum of last week's massive demonstrations as Brazilians went back to work on Monday.
The nameless, leaderless protest movement, which blossomed thanks to social media and strong university student participation, has brought together Brazilians angry about corruption, poor public services and billions of dollars being spent to host soccer's World Cup next year.
Like most demonstrations since the movement started in Sao Paulo on June 6, Monday's protest started peaceful as the crowd marched through downtown streets.
