"Mountain-Mother" (Serra-Mãe)

"Mountain-Mother" is a literary expression created in 1945 by Sebastião da Gama, in a book, inspired by the Arrábida Mountains. "Mountain-Mother" is the religious exaltation of Nature and this term suggests merging the human with Mother Nature and points out the mountains as the motherly lap where the poet takes refuge to regain tranquility and confidence.
The work of Sebastião da Gama, poet and teacher, is connected to the Arrábida Mountains, where he lived, a place of meditation and prayer, and mystical celebration of Nature and their personal tragedy, caused by the disease that killed him early, tuberculosis.

“Serra-Mãe” é uma expressão literária criada em 1945 por Sebastião da Gama, numa obra inaugural, inspirada pela Serra da Arrábida. Além da exaltação da religiosidade da Natureza, este termo sugere a fusão do humano com a Natureza, a fraternidade de todos os seres franciscanos abrigados pela Natureza-Mãe e aponta a serra como regaço maternal onde o poeta se refugia para recobrar tranquilidade e confiança.
A obra de Sebastião da Gama, poeta e professor, encontra-se ligada à Serra da Arrábida, onde vivia, local de recolhimento poético e da celebração mística da Natureza e à sua tragédia pessoal, motivada pela doença que o vitimou precocemente, a tuberculose.
