half - remembered nightmare
wakening...

scared
perhaps too
frightened quite to ponder
such a thing...

try to be
pre-occupied
where shadows cast
a pall...

of circumstance
no one could want
the reaper's distant
call

for tender child!
unreconciled,
the mind tossed
to and fro

between extremes
of broad denials
and slight acceptance
...tho,

numb
still unaccustomed to
the shadows where they
loom

scared
no, terrified!
at this imponderable
doom.
