Low relief buildings can be the perfect prop to extend the scenery in this way. They can be positioned against the background with the sky or mountains painted on the backdrop behind.
This quick video shows how to make a very realistic looking industrial/office building in low relief. The material used is core flute, but you can use foam core or cardboard.
