Critics noted the well-chosen cast and sure-handed direction let it thrill despite retreading origin-story ground. A sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, came out in 2014, and Garfield later reprised his role in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home which linked the Webb films to the MCU multiverse.
