Michel Galiana - DEAD CALM

In an eddy of time our story ran aground.
A mere broken off wing bereft us of the cloud
But in our memory we still hear warbling sounds
And nothing is missing under the sober shroud
But the two strangers who fancied to be living.

I have retrieved footprints that were full of cinder.
The voice did not succeed in breaking yoke or door.
By these orchids I shall keep watch over the corpse,
But the grave, I know it, I shall never enter
As the deceased posted her stronger mate before.

A heavy slab of night muzzled the howling wind.


CALME PLAT

Dans un remous du temps s'échoua notre histoire.
Pour une aile brisée il n'est plus de nuage
Mais la rumeur du chant habite nos mémoires
Et rien n'a déseté notre détresse sage
Que les deux étrangers qui se croyaient vivants.

J'ai retrouvé des pas où reposaient des cendres;
La voix n'a pas brisé le carcan ni la porte.
Au buisson d'orchidées nous veillerons la morte
Mais je sais le caveau où je ne dois descendre.
Car l'absente a laissé sa compagne plus forte.

Une pierre de nuit a muselé le vent.
