Michael P. Johnson - THE MASTER’S CUP

A vessel made by God above
Was formed for use on earth
So humble, yet with all His love
A cup was given birth

Through many hands in common use
It passed from day to day
Defiled and marred through man’s abuse
As refuse cast away

Created with much love and care
By God’s own hand designed
The cup lay now in disrepair
In filth where none should find

Yet all was in The Master’s sight
The sorrow and the pain
So sad to see His vessel’s plight
God’s hand reached out again

God sent His Son to wash it clean
With love to be restored
Again as new it should be seen
In service of The Lord

Within The Potter’s skilful hand
Reforming simple soil
To help His children understand
Christ fills with precious oil

In streams, the Liquid Light must flow
Must saturate the earth
Must cause the barren land to grow
And bring His bride to birth

Salvation’s well can never drain
When used, it fills anew
So in His hand God’s cup again
Will quench the chosen few…
