Description
Metaluoghi is a transmedia project investigating the construction of spatial imaginaries—both social and personal—through digital technologies. Inspired by the concept of “heterotopias” from Foucault’s Of Other Spaces, the work gives life to heterotopic landscapes: places that exist outside of society, yet reassemble signs, memories, and contradictions of the real world.
Developed between 2021 and 2024, Metaluoghi is a collection of archetypal places, first built in 3D using Blender, and then decompressed through artificial intelligences. These are spaces tied to my personal escapes from reality, accompanied by phrases reflecting the moment in which they were created. The resulting landscapes are suspended between reality and dream: impossible architectures, fragments of urban archetypes, and details of everyday objects recombined through collage.
The aim is not to imitate reality but to produce a meta-reality: an alternative dimension that serves as an escape from the present, a space to pause and reflect. In this sense, Metaluoghi becomes a visual critique of the artificial spaces of our contemporary world—from master-planned cities to metaverses—spaces that aesthetically steal symbols from memory and imagination, yet often lack human depth.
