Mercury_ A Topographical View
0 Views • Jun 17, 2026
Description
Mercury's surface is pockmarked with a countless number of impact craters, a result of having almost no atmosphere to protect it from incoming asteroids and meteoroids. The data for this visualization was meticulously collected by NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft, which orbited Mercury from 2011 to 2015. MESSENGER's observations provided a wealth of information, allowing scientists to create detailed maps and gain a deeper understanding of the planet's geology and history. This image serves as a powerful reminder of the violent history of the inner solar system.
