The expression “49 X 101” is the same as the following two:
(49 X 100) + (49 X 1).

But why even use the two expressions right above computations whenever there is a two-digit number multiplied by 101-the answer is 4949.

For example, multiplying a three-digit numbers such as 123 by 101 is 12423-it can be done in seconds as well.
