Verjeana Jacobs is a licensed attorney, educational consultant, and trained mediator from Prince George’s County, Maryland. Throughout her career, Verjeana has focused on empowering others while advocating for social justice.

Verjeana received her undergraduate education from the University of Maryland College Park where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminology. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law in 1996. She has been a member of the Maryland Bar since 1996 and a member of the District of Columbia Bar since 2016. Verjeana has also been a licensed consultant through Maryland Nonprofits Standards for Excellence Institute since 2013.

Throughout her impressive career, Verjeana Jacobs has served in various prominent leadership roles. She currently works as the Chief Equity and Member Services Officer for the National School Boards Association (NSBA). In this role, Verjeana is responsible for signature programs including National Connection, the Center for Safe Schools, Buy Board, and the Equity Councils. She is a proponent for educational equity programming that is designed to identify and eradicate discriminatory practices, prejudices, and beliefs related to race, disability, and socioeconomic status in public education. Furthermore, she frequently delivers workshops and keynote speeches on various topics regarding education, law, and social justice.

Before beginning her work for the NSBA, from 1989 to 2012, Verjeana Jacobs worked at the second largest correctional facility in Maryland. After working her way up the ranks, Verjeana eventually became the Legal Affairs and Professional Responsibility Chief. Verjeana also served as an elected board member for Prince George’s County’s Board of Education from 2006 to 2016. She served as chair for six of those 10 years. Additionally, Verjeana Jacobs has worked as an adjunct assistant professor teaching various classes at the University of Maryland, including Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, Criminal Law in Action, Legal Studies, and Victimology.

Since becoming a mother eight years ago, Verjeana has found a renewed passion to advocate for children, especially those who are subjected to inequities within the public school system. She dreams of creating a better world not only for her son but for children everywhere.
