Dr. Sabha Ganai, from Fargo, North Dakota, is a board-certified surgical oncologist with over twenty years of experience. She has expertise in the multidisciplinary management of pancreas, hepatobiliary (liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts), and foregut (stomach and esophagus) tumors, thyroid and parathyroid disease, as well as retroperitoneal sarcomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Likewise, she is experienced in minimally-invasive surgery. Sabha Ganai was the first to perform the HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) procedure in Central and Southern Illinois.
Sabha Ganai is most interested in helping rural Americans get the cancer treatment they deserve. Her academic interest focuses on rural cancer disparities, health geographics, ethics, surgical education, and translational research examining the biology of metastasis. Most importantly, Sabha Ganai is compassionate about her patients and strives to facilitate understanding between herself, as a doctor, and her patients by simplifying complex information in a way that everyone can understand.
Her work in the healthcare field goes beyond the operating table. Sabha Ganai presently holds several national leadership positions within the community, serving as an active committee member for the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Association for Academic Surgery, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Society for Surgical Oncology.
She is also well-educated within her field. Sabha Ganai attended the University of Southern California from 1993 to 1997, earning a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Bioethics. She moved on to get her Doctor of Medicine from the same university, her Doctor of Philosophy, Program in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Massachusetts, and her Master of Public Health, Epidemiology, from Harvard University.
She continued to be part of academia during her post-graduate life, becoming a Clinical Associate to several universities, an Assistant Professor for the Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and eventually an Associate Professor for the Department of Surgery at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Sabha Ganai has had several peer-reviewed publications put out into the world in addition to her teaching and surgical experience and has experience in editing and peer-reviewing other people’s works as well. She’s avid in community service and passing on her leadership knowledge through skill courses. Dr. Sabha Ganai is also part of several regional, national, and international committees, such as being part of the Board of Directors for the Consortium for Surgical Ethics and Councilor of the Illinois Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
