Description

Sky blue mornings and grey afternoon monsoons,
Pretty Spanish ladies and motley hot air balloons.
The distant evening call of the wild coyote,
Nature's grand show of thunder and lightning.

Christmas decorations of rows of luminaries,
Chili lights dance in Tucumcari.
The red melon glow of the evening Sandias,
Carne avovada, green chilies and sopaipillas.

The roadrunner runs past the desert mouse,
Tiled Spanish archways adorn the entrance to a house.
Antique black chairs and creaky hardwood floors,
Flat roof scuppers and wide gaps at decrepit doors.

Rolling waves of desert with a sea of scrub oaks,
Flat top mesas with narrow canyon approaches.
The box winds are perfect at Balloon Fiesta,
A tired old Indian decides to take a siesta.

Sante Fe skiing is above 11,000 feet,
Moguls can be found in between the trees.
Driving my Datsun roadster on old Route 66,
The smell of Pinyon trees adds a mountain air scent.

Arroyos fill quickly with wild mountain water,
High mountain Aspens, green valleys and calderas.
Always in my memory my mind beckons to recall,
The beauty of New Mexico to fill my soul.
