Marilyn Shepperson - The Skeleton
2 Views • Jun 12, 2014
Description
And entered a deep dark cave
Torch on, I followed it to the end
Whereupon to my surprize
I found a human skeleton
The police took it away promptly
And questioned me at some length
But as there was no proof of foul play
They let me go free, seemingly reluctantly
Over the weeks and months that followed
They tried to identify the man
To put a name to the poor dry bones
They searched the databases the world over
Yet not a thing came to light
In desperation they then turned
To one of those special artists
Whom with skull, clay and computer
Remade up the missing face
I was invited to go along with others
To view this sculptered stranger
We looked long and hard
But he remained just a stranger
Yet as I came away, headed home
Something nagged at the back of my mind
Almost as if I had perhaps seen him
Once, in passing, many years ago
Eventually they gave up and a funeral took place
I went along feeling I should
As his finder, pay my last respects
It was as I left the church
To begin my homeward journey
It struck me hard, what we had all missed
That as humanoid as that creature had seemed
It was not human.
