Less and less people know me.
I am quite out of fashion.
When you become a Buddhist
Nobody dies of passion.

Cycling across the market,
Through the dumb tourist crowd,
I fancy I hear a voice,
Calling my name aloud.

The hearty fellow poet
From the days when I got drunk?
A long-forgotten student?
A marketeering monk?

Sempre meno persone mi conoscono.
Sono abbastanza fuori moda.
Quando diventi buddista
Nessuno muore di passione.

Andando in bici per il mercato,
Tra la folla stupida di turisti,
Mi pare di sentire una voce,
Chiamare forte il mio nome.

Il caloroso poeta amico
Dei giorni in cui mi ubriacavo?
Uno studente dimenticato da tempo?
Un monaco venditore al mercato?
