Manic Phase - Sewing Frenzy

Once I got settled in to an actual place last year, I started tracking down where all my stuff went. Surprisingly very little of it was thrown away- there was one painting that my notes tell me I had just started working on, and to this day there’s no trace of it. I wasn’t very far along on it so it’s not a big deal; just out the cost of one ~24 X 30 canvas from Michael’s. More importantly, one of the first things I DID locate was my old Singer-44 SEWING Machine!

It was only a little scratched on the back housing; still working perfectly. Apparently they found me carrying it around in a wheeled bag back in 2017 when I was taken into one of the psychiatric wards. It used to be something i enjoyed doing I guess. So February 18, 2018 when I had both It and a place to plug it in, I made a point to start using it every day. And on the advice of my therapist, this has become one of my most carefully logged activities in my journal.

As of July 2, I will have gone 500 days in a row, uninterrupted, sewing something every day. I’ve gone through three replacement needles. But this thing is a powerhouse and will not quit... the 44S. Even during my moving days last summer I was still able to make time to plug in and at least get something done.

I could show a photo of my journal where I keep records of it to protect myself from the anterograde amnesia, but it would just appear to be insane scribbling to anyone other than me and my therapists. So it’s more interesting to show some action clips, some past projects, current project, and some future (grandiose) ambitions

Reading this, it may sound as if I’ve been incredibly productive (500 days in a row!) But a lot of times it’s just been minor repairs- of my own clothes and other people’s. I fixed a torn zipper on some guy’s jeans so he could wear them again. There were a few completely new garments. Right now I don’t have the materials for what I really want to work on. I need to get myself together for a trip to JoAnn’s fabrics.
