Often in the still of night
I wonder why it wasn't right...............
Why couldn't you love me?

Was there something wrong with me
Something that I couldn't see
That turned you cold inside?

I reached out and offered you
Everything you asked me to............
Why wasn't it enough?

When did passion's flame burn out?
When did you begin to doubt..............
Perhaps you were afraid

Of getting close to someone new,
Committment wasn't part of you................
Your freedom held you back;

I only wanted you to share
My hopes and dreams because I care...............
My feelings were sincere,

But you thought I would stifle you,
Would question everyhing you do..............
And so you chose to run;

In all your life you never knew
Another who would care for you
And overlook your flaws...............

Perhaps you couldn't understand
Why I reached out to take your hand -
To share my life with you.................

And in your insecurity
You turned and walked away from me..............
Why couldn't you love me?
