Check out this spectacular aerial view of a powerful thunderstorm lighting up the skies above Chicago and Lake Michigan.

Alyssa Calcagno, from Lone Tree, Colorado, USA ,captured the dramatic footage while flying over Chicago during a nighttime flight.

The video, filmed from an airplane window, shows towering storm clouds stretching across the horizon as brilliant flashes of lightning repeatedly illuminate the cloud tops from within.

Below, the glowing grid of Chicago's city lights provides a striking contrast to the dark storm system, while lightning can be seen striking over Lake Michigan.
