If u call him in the morning with his coffee and tv
His thoughts are pretty lucid
In that moment he could fix anything
After lunch he starts slipping
Then the clouds roll in
After dinner lets go completely
No more to comprehend
I remember the hope of dawn
That was lost by midday
And how by closing time
That too ran away
Sometimes I blame myself
For believing too much
Working to send him through training
The genius in him I saw the cause
Every dime I had
Every resource I could find
Anything to boost him further
Years later built a business by his side
But to some you can give everything
And its still not enough
What can I now give another
When no more do overs in me are left
Steer away from anything
Resembling the lies that once piled up......

The sadness in the voice
Of a morning call
Clarity that won't last
Into nightfall
