it seems
that I scarcely move at all
anymore
only frozen
pain -
my addiction
my drug

my knees are sore
from when you kicked me down
my back is scratched
from when you dragged me across the floor
my arms are bruised
from when you threw your fits of rage
my skin is broken
from when you tore through it

I don't want to cry anymore

but the tears come
once again - like before
so many times before

I don't want to cry anymore

but my tattered hands
can't open the pillbox anymore
and even aspirin won't save me now

but I need the pain
like I need the air
like I need you

but I can't live like this
fearing you
loving you

but I'm so scared
afraid to be near you
afraid to leave you
afraid to endure you
afraid to live without you
