I was way up, but there was no mistake: I could see bodies on the zebra crossings, in the gutters, in the cars and behind the windows of the restaurants in the opposite buildings Slowly the horror sank in that some calamity had occurred. For some reason people had died in Shybuya and not just a few. The district had come to standstill, nothing moved.I tried the phone but it was still dead.I shook myself. OK, let’s go to the lobby: the hotel staff would know what had happened and what I needed to do. I stuck a newspaper in the doorframe to prevent the door from closing. With the elevator out of order I took the stairs down.
