Ken Duffy - The Child Within

Who protects the damaged inner you
Who takes care of that frightened child
Who will ride the white steed of deliverance
Who will rescue that child from its fears

We erect elaborate walls and defenses
To provide a haven for our frightened child
Protecting it from past memories as best we can
From dangers that still lurk on the outside

The protection barriers are elaborate
Becoming for some an impenetrable prison
Making it impossible at any attempt of rescue
Child is forever trapped by the minds defenses

For that frightened child you swore to protect
And you, its noble and honorable protector
Is the reality, the child may never be rescued
As barriers built, have made prisoners of you both
