Description

I dread the annual visit
That my mother schedules for me
A day or two after my birthday
On the 20th of November each year
It’s the day my dentist does his annual probe
Into every nook and cranny
Of my gaping mouth
That he holds wide open with steel calipers
To see if he can discover a cavity
In between my molars or canines
Or whether there is infection
In my gums or an ingrown tooth

And when he does find something wrong
I swear he chuckles with glee
For he loves his electric drill
That he uses to dig little holes
Into my teeth so that he can save it
And patches it up with mortar
That he mixes on a silver slab
Then seals the cavities to halt decays march
Once again my teeth is safe
Until bacteria finds another way into
The tartar coated enamels of my teeth!
