Jon Ojala - Remainders

Description
a young couple, arm in arm,
sharing a secret thought,
oblivious to the swirling mass of humanity
cascading around them,
conscious only of each other.
They remind me of you.
A woman is sitting on a park bench
in the late afternoon sunlight,
pondering the wisdom
of the words of the book
she is holding in her lap.
In her dignity,
she reminds me of you.
An elderly couple is slowly shuffling
down the aisle of the supermarket,
hand in hand,
the love they have for each other
tenderly expressed
in the gentle smiles on their faces.
They remind me of you.
A beautiful young woman, late in her pregnancy,
is struggling gracefully to rise up
out of the library chair,
her countenance calm and serene.
She reminds me of you.
Being with you was like
snuggling down under
a thick pile of blankets
on a frosty winter night:
warm and safe.
Each day I think about you,
of what might have been,
of what should have been,
of what now will never be.
Memories of you confront me every day.
Memories of you are all I have now, of you.
