Little newborn
child of promise.
born under the Covenant,
tightly wrapped in white,
longed for,
our firstborn.
Cradling you in my arms for the first time,
you stare up at me with tiny, brilliant,
unfocused trusting eyes,
your head gently bobbing
as you silently mouth words
in a language I cannot comprehend,
welcoming me into your life.
Staggered by the responsibility
which I have been given,
flooded with a complexity of emotions
which I have never before felt,
humbled and grateful for this opportunity for family,
I silently give thanks for you and for Norma,
for all the blessings that I have been given.
And so the journey begins.
