THE PRIDE: Jean Lafitte's flagship "PRIDE" was a brigantine/sloop. While stationed in Galveston (1817-1821), Lafitte primarily conducted his business from the Pride, which also served as his living quarters. The Pride initially had two masts, making her a brig, but later gained a third mast, technically becoming a barque. The original two masts were the foremast and the mainmast, with the mainmast carrying a large driver (or spanker) and a full set of square sails similar to the foremast. A mizzenmast was added later to improve maneuverability, especially in coastal waters.
