This Lumping Horse dance uses horses made of bamboo or other materials which are woven and cut to resemble the shape of a horse, decorated with artificial hair made of plastic ropes or the like wrapped in a coil or braid.

This woven horse is decorated with paint and cloth of various colors. The lumping horse dance usually only features a horse-riding scene, but several performances of the lumping horse also feature attractions of possession, immunity, and magical powers, such as the attraction of eating glass and immunity against whipping whips.

Jaran Kepang is part of the Reog dance performance. Although this dance originates from Java, Indonesia, this dance is also inherited by the Javanese who live in North Sumatra and in several areas outside Indonesia such as in Malaysia, Suriname, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, England, and America.
