James Atkins - Descent
2 Views • Nov 09, 2014
Description
that I see things lying hidden
through instinct alone, when urge defines action
and action prevails.
When thought chases reflex
‘til response resolves thinking,
when foresight declines and remembrance sinks low -
Pain dilutes conscience, the angels are hunting
to be crowned with hot blood,
and a dark, frenzied hunger.
The moment is all, tomorrow is never
need begets need
and need dominates.
And the hunted ones writhe in spasmodic rhythm,
to agonized cries of demented despair
eyes open again,
again and forever
time and again, forever is now.
For the wind speaks quiet warning
of those who return,
and their terror,
and worse -
The black journey awaiting
those glutted with life
In the moment,
that I see clearly at last,
why some things lie hidden,
I hear plaintive crying,
tomorrow beckons -
I close my eyes, having seen enough,
I look forward,
consciously blinded,
afraid to remember.
Never to forget.
In the moment,
I know -
