Description
James was a young man who lived in a small village outside of Wales. He had an overwhelming desire for more out of life than what his tiny village could give him. He was never satisfied with his current situation and was always looking for the next adventure or challenge. After learning of a saint who resided atop a nearby mountain, James made the decision to seek him out in the hopes that the wise old man could assist him in discovering a sense of direction and meaning in his life. After a long journey, James finally arrived at the mountaintop and met the saint.
James was greeted by the elderly man with a friendly smile and invited to sit and chat. James shared his restlessness and never-ending search for more with the saint. After patiently listening, the saint handed James a cup of the tea, saying, "Drink this tea, it is the best in country"; James took a sip of the tea and was surprised to discover that it tasted exactly the same as every other cup of tea he had ever consumed.
When he told the saint this, the saint just smiled and told James. The act of drinking the tea, the act of being present and appreciating what is right in front of you, is what is important; not the tea itself. The beauty of the present moment had escaped James' attention because he had been so worried with the next adventure and challenge. He thanked the saint and vowed to be mindful of the moment and cherish the little things. James experienced his heaviest and happiest feeling in years as he made his way down the mountain. He came to understand that seeking more did not lead to true happiness, but rather gratitude for what one already had.
You see, in your life, happiness is found not in the pursuit of more, but in the appreciation of what we already have; in to be present in the moment; in appreciating the beauty of simplicity, in finding peace and calmness. These values can help us find happiness and purpose in our lives, no matter who we are, where we are, or what we are doing. Thank you so much for watching, and stay blessed.
