Irina Whitford - Inside the Wire

There is life here.
The wind dances around the trees,
Playing chase with all foliage.
Birds prepare to nest and build heartily
For the arrival of unborn chicks.
Clouds of no formation race across the sky as if escaping...
While murmurings from inside indicate
The smooth running of a tight ship.
All around me there are sounds with distinction.
Even the lightest of rain creates a new life,
When mirrored droplets gather on leaves.
And while life closest to the ground
Is quieter and less wind-swept,
All around and above me,
The tree's, the wall's and
The razor wire...
There is life here.
