Introducing Yelian Garcia

Yelian Garcia is an entrepreneur and financial analyst with a background in the healthcare industry. After five years as a practicing physician and a decade in the clinical sciences, he made the decision to shift his career trajectory and pursue a career in the financial sector. He is now a successful business owner and financial professional.

Yelian Garcia was born in Havana, Cuba, and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. He has called Toronto home since his family immigrated in 1994. He attended high school in Toronto and graduated with honours and earning himself an academic scholarship to York University. As an undergraduate student, Yelian studied biology and chemistry. After graduating from York University, he earned his medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine, an American medical school in the Caribbean. He also received postgraduate medical training at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, before transitioning his career to the financial sector.

After deciding to follow his passion for international finance and global affairs, Yelain Garcia partnered with a friend to start a new company called Legal Expense Canada. The organization is a private insurance broker partnered with and underwritten by ARAG, specializing in legal expense protection.

As a firm believer in the value of education, Yelian Garcia decided to further his education to support his new career path. In 2018, he earned a certificate in Derivatives Market Strategies and Advanced Investment Advise from the Canadian Securities Institute in Toronto. He also attended Schulich School of Business at York University from 2018 to 2020, recently graduating with an International MBA in finance and international business.

Since becoming an entrepreneur and running his own business, Yelain Garcia has learned the value of dreaming, setting goals, and following through with decisive action. He believes that curiosity and willingness are vital aspects of successful entrepreneurship. He also believes it is important to be a lifelong learner and to re-evaluate your core beliefs regularly.

Even in his personal time, Yelian Garcia enjoys educating himself. He frequently listens to financial podcasts and reads nonfiction books. He is also passionate about physical health and fitness, Jazz music, and science advocacy. Yelian also spends time volunteering at the humane society in his hometown.
