As the year wraps up, we would also like to take a moment to review some of the statistics about police misconduct for 2010. through September there have been THREE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED FOURTEEN (3,814) -- Unique reports of police misconduct tracked Which involved almost 5,000 FIVE THOUSAND- sworn law enforcement officers. This involved 5,711 FIVE THOUSAND SEVENHUNDRED EVELEN alleged victims. And of those 193 ONE HUNDRED NINTY THREE resulted in fatalities The report also states that more than $200 million was spent on misconduct-related civil judgments and settlements . Excessive force tops the list of complaints. Twenty-five percent of all police misconduct reports tracked involved officers engaging is some sort of excessive force. This was followed by sexual misconduct complaints at 10.4%, followed by drunk driving and drug investigations at 7.9% . Strangely enough, Animal cruelty continues to be seen in the list, with this quarter's report having the number at 1.2 percent. It may not come as a surprise that California, Texas, Illinois, New York and Florida top the state list for excessive force. The report was complied by National Police Misconduct Statistics and Reporting Project. The project seeks to address the lack of statistical data concerning police misconduct in the United States.
