How to Help Children Grieve
5 Views • Mar 03, 2014
Description
Children begin grieving when they feel a loss, not when they hear about it. You'll help a child grieve when you:
- Answer their questions honestly and avoid the use of euphemisms
- Stop talking about the loss if the child becomes agitated or fidgety
- Eradicate confusion by answering questions repeatedly
- Allow them to express their pain in how they play
- Help them overcome their fears with truthful responses like:
"Not everyone dies in their sleep like Grandpa did. You can rest peacefully."
