The bell pepper is used a lot in recipes. It is a versatile ingredient, it can be used for soups, salads, stuffed or even peeled and used in a dressing. Learning a few key skills with the bell pepper will help anybody improve their cooking skills.

The Bell pepper comes in 3 main colours: red, yellow and green. Each different colour has a slightly different taste. The main difference that the green pepper is more bitter than the red pepper.

Stuffing peppers is a great option for vegetarians. The peppers can be filled with; cooked rice, cous cous, for example. And served with a tomato sauce.

Raw pepper can be used in many salad dishes, for example a mixed salad for a garnish on a burger.
Sliced Peppers For A Stir Fry
Cutting the peppers into strips and then cooking them quickly in a hot pan. These can be added to noodles. I also like to cut peppers into a small dice cook down in a hot pan and add to cous cous. By cooking the peppers first the flavour is great.

Chunky Diced Peppers For A Stew / Soup
Another great use for peppers is in soups. This would need to be cut down into chunky pieces and sweated off in a pan. The soup can then be blitzed to soup consistency.
Stew such as a sweat and sour style dish or a beef and pepper stew are great uses for a bell pepper.
Skinned Peppers For A Tart
A more advanced technique is the skinning of the peppers. This can be done by cooking the peppers in a very hot oven and peeling them once the skin has blackened. This can also be done with a blow torch. Once the peppers are completely blackened they can be put inside a container with a lid or a plastic bag. By doing so the skin will start to come off and will be easier to peel. This also gives the peppers a good flavour.
The peppers can then be cut into shapes; such as small circles.
