Description

How to build a deck. Part 06, by http://www.qualitydecking.co.uk -- Fitting decking boards. Part 05 shows how to fit Q-Deck york style decking. The boards are secured to the joists below using two decking screws on every joist at points roughly 25% in from the each edge of the board. The screws should be 2.5 times the depth of the decking board and for total peace of mind made of stainless steel. Allowing the boards to become surface dry before fitting is required and minimises the affects of shrinkage and swelling after fitting. Surface dry boards should be laid with a 5-6mm gap between them using a series of temporary spacer. In warm dry conditions this gap will get wider and in cold wet conditions it will get narrower. A schematic diagram of the deck continues to evolve. To find out more about Q-Deck visit http://www.qualitydecking.co.uk
