How Helicopter Works?
6 Views • Mar 30, 2021
Description
Helicopters are classified as rotary-wing aircraft to distinguish them from fixed-wing aircraft that are airplanes, helicopters create lift with blades rotating around a vertical axis.
A helicopter lifts on the same basic principle that an airplane lifts, with the movement of an aerodynamic plane of lift through the air.
The wing of an airplane is an aerodynamic surface that moves through the air with a forward motion produced by the force of the engine.
The rotor blades of a helicopter are also aerodynamic planes that move through the air in a circular motion, without requiring any movement or displacement of the aircraft.
The rotor of a helicopter normally has two or more blades arranged symmetrically around a hub or central axis that supports them during rotation.
When air passes through an airfoil, it produces a differential pressure. The pressure that exists in the upper part of the propeller is less than the pressure exerted in the lower part. This results in the lift force, and if the lift is greater than the weight of the helicopter, the lift begins. If we compare the helicopter with an airplane, the helicopter is much more complex, it has less flight range and less load capacity.
However, all these disadvantages are compensated by other of its characteristics, such as its great maneuverability and the ability to stay static in the air, turn on itself and take off and land vertically.
Flying helicopters is a fascinating experience that requires great concentration.
