How do they scam you on your Facebook?
1 Views • Feb 16, 2021
Description
However, like many other things on the Internet, some malicious people have turned these advantages into new opportunities to commit crimes and take advantage of the innocence of certain users who do not know as much about new technologies.
Of all of them, Facebook has stood out for the ease with which a person can post on the social network and interact with other users. Either by direct message or by posts on their profiles, these cybercriminals seek to satisfy your needs by deceiving others using various scam methods.
WHAT RECOMMENDATIONS DOES FACEBOOK GIVE?
On their main page, Facebook makes some recommendations to avoid scams on their own platform as well as the most common ways they have identified on their platform:
Points to keep in mind:
-Be suspicious of people you don't know who ask you for money.
-Be wary of people who ask you to send them money or gift cards to receive loans, prizes, or other earnings.
-Be suspicious of people who ask you for a sum of money in order to apply for a job.
-Be wary of pages that represent large companies, organizations or public figures and are not verified.
-Be wary of people who ask you to continue chatting on a channel other than Facebook that is less public or less secure (for example, another email).
-Be wary of people who claim to be friends or family in emergency situations.
-Be wary of people who give false information about your location. If a person registers in Messenger with his cell phone number, you can check which country that number corresponds to. If you think that a page may be scamming you, you can check its location.
-Be wary of messages or posts with misspellings or grammatical errors.
-Be suspicious of people or accounts that direct you to a page to get a prize.
Common Facebook scams
-Romantic scams: Usually, scammers of this type send messages to people who do not know them, arguing that they are getting divorced, widowed, or not happy with their partner. They establish relationships online in the hope of receiving money for flights or visas. Their goal is to earn your trust, so they can chat with you for weeks before asking you for money.
-Lottery-Related Scams: Lottery-related scams are carried out from accounts posing as a person you know or an organization (such as a government agency or Facebook). In the messages, it is stated that you are among the lucky winners of a lottery draw and that you will receive a large sum of money in exchange for a small fee. The scammer may ask you to provide personal information, such as your postal address or bank account details.
-Loan scams: Loan scammers send messages and posts offering instant low-interest loans for a small amount of money up front.
