Lifevantage was founded on the marketing of a product, the herbal Protandim, which is a proprietary formula of five herbal extracts of thistle, Bacopa, green tea Ashwagandha, milk and turmeric. Protandim has been on the market since about 2003, at first in retail distribution. Protandim purportedly causes the body to produce more of its own powerful antioxidants to fight the damaging effects of free radicals. Many people ingest antioxidants such as vitamin C from food and supplements, these must pass through digestive and other barriers, while Protandim is said to spur an increase in the body's internal defenses.
