Hamd Ejaz - BUT, YOU LOVE ME!

once more, i remembered;
the time of dustless dawns
when the aurora used to rise behind two clenched hands; now one!
when the shadow of two lovers; one soul; used to greet the coming sun!
the time of elegant evenings
when pearls used to pour down on our cheeks; our lips!
when our lips; glistening with pearls; ornamented the red oysters on our rims!
once more, i remembered all those moments!

Once more, i remembered;
the time of thunder-storms
when the column of thunder imitated in your eyes; through the gloom
when you used to hide yourself in my arms from the doom
the time of eternal springs
when the flowers blossomed; as you would touch them!
when trees began to flourish; as you would sit under them!

long gone are those days of glee, gleam and garnish!
those moments of passion and possession are all, but vanished
now, all i live is through this autumn!
now, my life; once green is now gray
perhaps my lover; my gardener has been led astray!
'But, you love me! '
the words echoed through my mind
as i re-lived those moments; i saw in my mirror
i didn't believe the reflection;
'But, you love me! ', i said again

'But, you love me! ', i said to those cold eyes;
which once shimmered with love and longing
were absent from every sense of belonging!
'No, i don't! ', she said
my heart withered like the autumn leaves; on which she tread!
and now it was not pearls; but pain that poured from my eyes!
as my lips opened for the last time;
'But, you love me! '
