Paradise for some is Eden, or
a place that’s vanished and can never regained;
for others it’s a distant time before
the present pressure doomed to be disdained.
It’s possible to trample on a place
regarded as a paradise. Once it’s invaded,
it is devalued as a sacred space,
the separate and distinctive now degraded.
But when the paradise is not confined
to spatial boundaries but extended to
a perfect past envisaged by the mind
it is eternal, though historically untrue.
