I love to take another writer's phrase
and bring it to a verse where I embed it,
transforming it in ways that should amaze
my readers. In a sense, I merely edit
voice patterns I inser into my verses,
a process that is basic to all speech.
From verbal sows' ears who can sew silk purses?
Yet almost any phrase helps me to reach
a meaning that can never be expressed
till I embed a fellow writer's words;
now scientists declare what I do best
may form the basis of the song of birds.
