Research show an estimated 90% of all clothing and textiles thrown out in the United States during recycling were salvageable and could have been donated or reused. In the United States, total giving to charitable organizations amounted to an estimates $316.23 billion in 2012. Research shows that an estimated 70% of Americans donate to charity at least once annually. Donating used clothing decreases pollution and landfill waste. The average American purchases an estimated 10 pounds of previously owned clothing each year in the United States.
