EU attacks « social Europe »

Spreads, EU rescue package, IMF, Ecofin, Eurogroup. Since the beginning of 2010, not only did the above phrases appear to the Greek vocabulary, but also became the nightmare of a whole society. While in Brussels the 27 prime ministers are deciding the best way for Greece to reach the painful reform, the Greeks are struggling with unemployment, poverty and despair. According to current official statistics, only the subscribed as unemployed persons are exceeding the number of 635.000, amongst which the majority are young people and habitants of the capital. In addition, according to some surveys, more and more people are choosing to turn to agriculture or to move abroad.
The austerity measures that the Greek government was urged to take had immediate impact on the trade sector, which has totally collapsed. Tens of thousands of small and medium enterprises were forced to close during the last year.
