I sit; and feel the cathode rays
Wash over me, ambitions erase
Electric opiates, I count the ways
That other things could fill my days
In early hours through potation haze
At endless screens I loyally gaze
Occasionally there is a phase
Of fascination for the latest craze
Complicated canapes
Works of art with hollandaise
The new ideas briefly amaze
Intently I listen to what it says
Ever more the viewer pays
For images it constantly relays
For the privilege to laze
And suffer televisual forays
That inevitably create malaise
An afternoon of green baize
Other people's holidays
Renovation resumes
The business of living delays.
