1,000 years ago, Vatar, the Prince of Darkness, was on the verge of an overwhelming victory over shattered remains of the army of Celenheim, when a single mage emerged, harnessing the infernal power of nature itself to form a vast cavernous rift between the two lands. After 1,000 years past, the people of Celenheim forgot Vatar, the war, and the danger lurking across the massive rift.

Now the once immense gorge has narrowed. Once trivial attacks from the "Outlanders," shadowy creatures from across the rift, have been growing at an alarming rate. The player emerges in a pivotal time. Will you serve as the valiant savior of the distraught populace of Celenheim, saving them from certain annihilation? Or will you instead align yourself with the dark hordes of the Outlands, aiding in the Shadow Forces' campaign to reclaim what they assert to be rightfully theirs?
